My name is Deborah Ranson, I’m 33 years old, and I’m a mother of two children and I live in Belgium.
Until two years ago, I worked in the hospitality industry in a fry shop, restaurant, lounge bar, and as a kitchen assistant.
In September 2024, I started the program to become a personal support worker. This includes providing care for people with disabilities, such as intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, and physical limitations,...
This program runs until June 2026.
My responsibilities include all daily living activities: washing, dressing and undressing, preparing meals, toileting, cleaning, offering leisure and hobby activities,… all with the goal of helping clients maintain their independence for as long as possible.
At the sheltered workshop, I help people with disabilities develop work skills and strengthen their competencies, gradually preparing them for the labor market. The tasks include: preparing cables and pipes for sale, textile printing, distributing advertising flyers, wood processing, teaching communication techniques, stress management, giving workshops, self-reflection… and working with the social services team.
Social services means that I stay in contact with social workers who provide support to individuals and communities dealing with psychosocial difficulties, helping improve their quality of life.
As a youth care educator, I support children and young people in their daily lives. I create structure, safety, and clarity, and help them develop social, emotional, and practical skills. I guide them during activities, school moments, meals, free time, and personal care. I help prepare them to eventually live independently in society.
As a dedicated educator in special education, I provide comprehensive support to students with disabilities, focusing on their learning, social development, and overall well-being. I assist with daily activities such as personal care, dressing, meals, and hygiene, while encouraging independence and self-reliance.
I support students in their learning processes by helping with class assignments, adapting materials to individual needs, and applying differentiated teaching strategies. I also foster social and emotional development by providing structure, guidance, and positive reinforcement, while helping students manage emotions, behavior, and conflicts.
Beyond academics, I engage students in creative, recreational, and practical activities, promoting communication skills, teamwork, and life skills. I collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, parents, and other professionals to create individualized plans, monitor progress, and ensure a safe, supportive environment.
My goal is to provide a nurturing and structured setting where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
I also observe their behavior, offer emotional support, and work on building their self-confidence and independence. I help them manage emotions, conflicts, and difficult situations.
I work closely with fellow caregivers, psychologists, teachers, parents, and other professionals. Together, we create individualized plans and goals for each young person and regularly evaluate their progress.
The overall goal is always the same: to create a safe environment where young people can grow, heal, and make progress.
I believe it is very important to regularly attend training and professional development sessions to ensure that the care I provide is always of the highest quality. I am motivated and eager-to-learn professional, committed to continuously improving my skills and staying up-to-date with the latest practices in special education and disability support.
My dream is to move to the United States, specifically the Dallas area, and find work there. I would love to start applying for my documents, but I don’t know where to begin. There are so many different visa options, and I’m not sure which one I should apply for. Perhaps a future employer could help guide me through the process.
I am someone you can rely on, and I do my job with heart and dedication.
I can take on responsibility independently. This was shown by the trust I received during my internship, where I often worked alone on the floor while still providing high-quality one-on-one support to clients.
I am a positive person who listens well and wants people to feel that they truly matter. I enjoy meaningful conversations, I’m not afraid to work hard, and I stay calm and focused under pressure. I’m patient, creative, and love involving my clients in creative activities.
Colleagues often tell me that I am reliable, adapt easily to new situations, and always bring a positive, eager-to-learn attitude to the team. I hope to carry that same attitude into my work with clients, where I aim to contribute to a supportive and stimulating environment.
Thank you once again for considering my application. I truly appreciate your time and attention, and I hope for the possibility to contribute to your team in the near future.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information.
